Privacy policy

Last updated

In short: your records are yours. Pit Wall does not sell your information or show you ads, and you can export or delete everything at any time.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address and your name (if you sign in with Google, Google gives us both), and the settings you choose, such as a country, your home currency, units and time zone.
  • Your cars and records: what you enter about your cars, such as make, model and year, the VIN if you add it, odometer readings, service and parts records, amounts, shops, schedules, reminders, fuel, trips and notes.
  • Documents and photos: the invoices, receipts and other documents you upload, photos of your cars, and what is read from them. Camera and location details (EXIF and GPS) are removed from every photo before it is stored. PDFs are kept as they are.
  • People you invite: the email address of anyone you invite to a garage, so we can send the invitation.
  • Payments: for each payment you make, the amount, the currency, the tax and the billing address you gave, and the payment provider’s reference for it, kept with the payment for your receipt and for our tax records. Your card details go to the payment provider and never reach us.
  • What it takes to run the service: the IP address of your requests, used to limit abuse and keep sign-in secure; what the AI did for your account and what it cost, for your balance; and error logs, which never contain the text of your documents.

What we do not do

  • No advertising and no advertising trackers.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal information, or share it for anyone else’s marketing.
  • We do not use your documents to train AI models.
  • No recording of your sessions.
  • No marketing email.

How we use it

Only to run the service for you: to keep your records, read the documents you upload, work out totals and schedules, send the reminders you ask for, show the people you choose what you share with them, keep the service secure and fix problems, and keep your balance.

Who else handles it

Service providers process your information on our behalf, under contract and only to provide their part of the service: hosting and the database, file storage and backups, sign-in, email delivery, a bot check, error reporting and analytics where we use them, the payment provider that takes your card and works out the tax when you add money, and the AI services that read the documents, photos, questions and descriptions you send.

Documents and photos are sent to the AI service as they are, so any personal details printed on a page reach it too. We use AI providers under terms that do not allow them to train on what we send.

Our providers may store and process information in countries other than yours. While it is there, it is subject to local law, including lawful access by the authorities there.

Sharing you choose

Nothing you add is visible to anyone else unless you share it.

  • Garages: you can invite people to a garage and choose what they see, for example the full history or the history without prices. You can remove them at any time.
  • Public pages: you can publish a page about a car and choose each detail it shows. A VIN, prices, shops and documents are never shown on a public page. Anyone with the address can see it.
  • Links: you can create links to chosen records, for example to hand them to an AI assistant of your own or to a buyer. Links expire, and you can revoke them in your sharing settings.

Keeping and deleting your information

  • We keep your information for as long as you have an account.
  • You can export everything, including your documents and photos, at any time from Settings, at no cost.
  • You can delete your account from Settings. Your profile, cars, records, documents and photos are deleted at once, every link you made stops working, and the people you shared with lose access. This cannot be undone.
  • What the AI read from documents you uploaded together is kept while any of those documents, or a record made from them, is still in your account. When the last of them goes, the reading goes with it.
  • The backup copy of a deleted file is deleted with it. Copies in the database backups are removed as those backups are replaced.
  • Records of the payments you made (the amount, the currency, the tax, the billing address you gave and the payment provider’s reference) are kept after the account is deleted for as long as tax law requires, for the tax return, apart from everything else and no longer tied to an account.
  • After you delete your account, or change your email address, we keep a one-way code made from the address alone, with the date. It lets us see that an address has had its free first year, so that deleting an account and opening it again does not start another. The code cannot be turned back into your address, we keep it for as long as we run the service, and nothing else about you is kept with it.

Your rights

You can see, correct, export and delete your information in the app, at any time.

For anything the app does not show, or a question or complaint about how we handle your information, email our privacy contact at contact@pitwall.diy.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can complain to the data-protection authority where you live.

Cookies

We use cookies only to keep you signed in and to remember which garage you last opened. Your choice of light or dark theme is kept in your browser’s own storage. There are no advertising or tracking cookies. Analytics, where we use it, counts page views with a small script served from our own site. It reports the page address, the site that linked to it, your browser, system and device type, and a city-level location worked out from your connection. It sets no cookie, the one-way code that tells one day’s visits apart is discarded after 24 hours, and it does not record your session. The bot check runs in a frame provided by a third party.

Email

We send email only about your account and the service: sign-in links, invitations, the reminders and digests you choose, and important notices about your account or this policy. Reminders and digests carry a one-click unsubscribe link. We do not send marketing email.

Children

The service is not for children under 13, or under the minimum age for online services where you live. Someone who is not yet an adult where they live needs a parent’s or guardian’s permission to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; an account can be deleted at any time from Settings.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we post the new version here with a new date. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
